the night before the surgery

i rollerskated my heart out. what better way to celebrate the last night of being on both feet (other than running a marathon)? went to the roxy to celebrate two of my coworkers birthdays. it was great, people were dressed up in their 70's and 80's finest. headbands. ripped shirts. flourescent colors. tube socks. short shorts. one-sided ponytails.

yes, it was a ripoff ($18 admission and $5 rental) but it was worth it. it brought me back to my elementary school field trip to the skating rink in san ramon waaaay back in the day. i got to hold hands with a boy while skating around the rink for one whole song, like i always wanted to back in 6th grade. they played fun old skool tunes to get everyone giggin and dancing. they were, of course, the show-offs that danced and skated circles around us, they even did some dirty dancing in the middle of the rink.

my foot won't be fully healed for about 3 months so this was a great way to celebrate my last night on both feet...

and the rollerskating subculture is..... rad!
