my eyes are dry and irritated. my hair is a tousled stinky mess. my breath is on major hit. my head is swimming and the room is swaying. small waves of nausea roll over me every few minutes. experiencing a pretty bag hangover, you ask?
complete opposite.
what i'm experiencing at this very moment... at 5:54pm on friday afternoon... is the aftermath of staying up close to 24 hours, going to JFK at an ungodly hour (5am!), wasting $50 on a cab when i could have taken the A train/ airtrain for $5, waiting on standby for a chance to fly out to sf on the eve of a holiday weekend, taking the hour long train back to my apt and getting only four hours sleep. at the airport, my name was passed up for the first two flights out and the standby list was getting longer and the crowd kept growing. by 8:30 am, i was delirious and could no longer maintain my composure or keep my eyes open. i considered taking a nap on the floor next to the gate right by the windows... i could set my alarm for 2 hours and then take the train home. i was beat.
but no, the voice in my head starting going off about airport thieves and pickpocketers and killers and i freaked myself out. so i walked out of terminal 7 (united) and towards my first trip on the airtrain. $5.. what a deal! easy, fast, reliable. then boarded the A train towards manhattan. i couldn't keep my eyes open on the ride back from howard beach... and neither could the people sitting all around me this early in the morning. everyone was napping. i fully appreciated the express train at this p0int. i couldn't wait to crawl into my bed and sleep the day away. but i only got 4 hours of rest...... def not enough. i woke up staring into the mirror with the image i described at the beginning of this post.....
strange... feels like a hangover.. but without the alcohol. think this is worse..
